Saint Brother André founded Saint Joseph's Oratory, He is it soul, it is he who gives inspiration and meaning to this legacy which elicits such enthousiam here in Canada, and increasingly around the world. The story of the shrine is still being written and it is our great pleasure to be its authors and eye withnesses.

| Official Prayer for the Canonization of Saint Brother André Prayer to obtain a special favour throught the intercession of Saint Brother André |
Saint Brother André, we celebrate your presence among us. Your loving friendship with Jesus, Mary and Joseph makes you a powerful intercessor with the Holy Father. Compassion carries your words straight to God's heart, and your prayers are answered and bring comfort and healing. Throught you, from our lips to God's ear, our supplications are heard... We ask to be made a part of God's work, alongside you, in the spirit of prayer, compassion and humility. Saint Brother André, pray for us. Amen |

Praise Saint Brother André! - October 17, 2010 |
|
October 17, 2010, will forever remain a memorable date for all pilgrims and friends of Saint Joseph's Oratory. On this day, Saint André Bessette—Saint Brother André—is held up by Pope Benedict XVI as a model of sainthood for the Universal Catholic Church. Saint Joseph's most loyal friend has now become to the whole world a brother, a friend, a saint. This man, born to a local family, serves as an inspiration to men and women everywhere to follow in his footsteps and open their hearts to others. Recently, someone said to me that Saint Brother André could actually be the patron saint of family caregivers, given his ability to comfort the suffering.
The papal declaration of October 17 is the culmination of a long process leading to the canonization of Brother André. But, more than just an end to a lengthy journey, this moment is a bridge to a new era. Saint Brother André continues to touch us today. He urges us, like himself, to make room in our lives for prayer and devotion to Saint Joseph, and to have openness and compassion for the sick and downtrodden.
During this time of grace, let us express our profound joy and pride in knowing that our brother, our friend, is now a saint. Throughout the entire world, let us celebrate he whom the Church exalts! Let us turn to him with confidence and ask him to help us in our efforts to live a life of prayer and service to others.
Saint Brother André, pray for us!

A Most Humble Man Prepares to Climb to the Heights |
|
In his Letter to the Romans, St. Paul seems to speak wisely about true humility when he counsels, “I want to urge each one among you not to exaggerate your real importance. Each of you must judge yourself soberly by the standard of the faith God has given you.” (Romans 12:3)
That is how I estimate Brother Andre's humility. In his case, there's nothing of false humility in which the person downgrades himself or presents herself as beneath others. As a man of true humility, Brother Andre made an accurate inventory of the gifts God had given him. His humility was that of a solid person, someone who didn't have to prove his standing before others. Brother Andre didn't need any fancy titles; he understood those words of Jesus which said that the greatest among you is the one who serves the others.
To be on the heights, the ultimate recognition that the Catholic Church can bestow upon one of its own was certainly not part of his “career planning!” From atop his station, Brother Andre doesn't really want to attract attention toward himself. Rather, he invites us to make our life a life of service and love.
Brother Andre will be standing on high as a witness who urges us to turn to Saint Joseph, his friend. Brother Andre can now better than ever rouse us to embrace this God of love toward whom all honor and glory be raised.
