The Way of the Cross

The 17 sculptures which form the Way of the Cross were conceived by the Montreal artist Louis parent between 1943 and 1953. They were chiseled out of indiana limestone from the united States and Italian Carrara Marble by Ercolo Barbieri between 1952 and 1958. The magnificent gardens were designed by the landscape architect Frederick G. Todd.

The Way of the Cross was blessed on July 29, 1951 by His Emminence, Cardinal Paul-Émile Léger. Thus the dream of Saint Brother André was realized: to offer pilgrims a location set aside for medite prayer on the mystery of the Passion of the Christ.
