POPE FRANCIS’ CALL TO PRAYER, FASTING AND RECOLLECTION – OCTOBER 27, 2023

A message from Father Michael DeLaney, Rector of Saint Joseph’s Oratpry of Mount Royal

Dear Friends of Saint Joseph’s Oratory,

In union with Catholics and believers of all religions, we are invited today to act in the name of peace in response to Pope Francis’ appeal.

In the face of escalating violence in the Middle East, the Holy Father is inviting us to an exceptional day of prayer, fasting and penance this Friday, October 27.

The Pope reminds us that “the possible widening of the conflict” between Israel and Palestine is “worrying, while many war fronts are already open in the world.” Let us pray for our brothers and sisters in all nations who suffer the violence, terror, dispossession, fear, and hatred engendered by wars.

Each of us could respond to the needs of those who suffer. On a personal level, we can say a special prayer, choose to make a sacrifice, or even try to forgive or resolve a conflict in our lives. These are gestures of solidarity to shape a more peaceful world, for the peoples of the world and for ourselves.

The great human family needs us. “Let everything possible be done,” said Pope Francis, so that peace may come. Let us carry the world in our prayers, with faith and hope.

You are all welcome to come to Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal to meditate in silence with Saint Joseph and Saint André Bessette.

Let us stand together in peace.

Father Michael M. DeLaney, CSC
