THEY SING ON SUNDAY

The choir school, La Maîtrise des Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal, (PCMR) has for its mission to enrich the religious services at Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal through sacred music. There are over 210 boys in the choir, aged eight to seventeen. Although their cultural backgrounds are varied, they all share a common passion for singing. At the choir school, they explore the great polyphonic works from across the ages and around the world. Their repertoire ranges from Gregorian chant to contemporary choral works.

A new album dedicated to Saint Joseph

The Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal present ITE AD JOSEPH (Go to Joseph), a record of sacred works illuminated by the passion of young singers. This is the first album by the Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal under the leadership of Music Director Andrew Gray, who has been in the position since 2016.

Produced by Martha de Francisco, a world-renowned authority in the field of sound recording, the album brings together 23 songs dedicated to St. Joseph, some of them well-known, but also many new ones, discovered thanks to suggestions from various places of worship around the world.

A School for Musical Formation

Founded in 1956 by Father Léandre Brault, CSC who was inspired by the great tradition of boys’ choir schools from Europe, the Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal has pursued its educational programs and has flourished. In addition to a regular curriculum, the choir school provides advanced musical training. At the elementary school level, the boys receive three hours of daily musical instruction. All study piano, voice and ear training, and choral singing in sacred and secular repertoire. During high school years, their formation includes enriching their repertoire and learning how to write music. La Maîtrise des Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal is a public school, under the Commission scolaire de Montréal. The school building is located on the grounds of Saint Joseph’s Oratory. General Director of the Choir School: Mrs Marie-Pierre Rolland. Musical and Artistic Director: Mr. Andrew Gray
