When Mary visits her cousin Elisabeth, pregnant with the prophet John the Baptist, she expresses strongly her joy when she feels her child react to her words. Both inhabited by an unwavering faith, they thank God. This scene gave birth to the Ave Maria, a very well-known prayer in the Catholic world, and set to music by Schubert and Gounod, among others.

“Mary visits us every day. This is the deepest, most true sense of this feast: the Feast of countless visits, all simple, all personal, well to us, that Mary multiplies in our lives, at every moment, at every difficulty. ”

René Voillaume, founder of the Brothers of Charles de Foucauld
