OUR MISSION SAINT JOSEPH BROTHER ANDRÉ PRAYER INTENTIONS CONGREGATION OF HOLY CROSS

World Earth Day - April 22, 2008
News from the Shrine > World Earth Day, April 22, 2008

prayer composed and published on the occasion of world earth day, april 22, 2008

“My body was fashioned in secret,
moulded in the depths of the earth”
(Psalm 138)

We are part of the earth

We are part of the earth,
from its dust we emerge;
to its dust we return.
Earth, forgive us for having abused your hospitality,
we know not what we do!

We are part of God,
from his heart we awaken,
in his heart we take rest.
Father, forgive us for not sensing when you are present,
we know not what we do!

We are part of humanity,
we yearn for solidarity,
we have a need to be connected.
Sisters and brothers, forgive us for our indifference,
we know not what we do!

Lord, God of heaven and earth,
light our way with your Holy Spirit.
Give us the courage to spring into action in the face of urgency;
Give us a heart of tenderness to arouse in us
a greater respect for life in all its forms.

Creator of the world, source of life and love,
move our leaders to use their power
in accordance with your plan for the world.
Let us see the world through your eyes,
to delight in the beauty of creation!

God of peace, through your son Jesus Christ,
teach us the true meaning of sustainable development
and how to share justly the goods of the earth!
Support our efforts to get out of the passivity of the daily grind
and reach out toward unity with every living being!

God of mercy, you reconcile everything in Jesus Christ,
increase our love for the earth
to give a legacy of hope to the children of the future!
Amen.
